今から8000年くらい前、富が集中した中国や中東で人間の寿命は30歳を超えた。男が生殖における自身の役割、すなわち精子の役割に気がついたのが、この頃だったとされる。それまでの人類はどうやら性交と生殖の具体的な仕組みを知らなかったらしい。だからカップルの関係は長く続かず、子供も両親と長く一緒には暮らさなかった。

寿命が延びたことで、男女は長期的な愛の関係を育むようになったのである。
