“ グリーンランドは1953年までデンマークの植民地だった。今でこそ部分的に独立してはいるが、すでに手遅れだ。デンマークはグリーンランドを、たった1世紀のうちに原始的な狩猟社会から産業社会に近いモノへと変えてしまった。たった100年前まで、人々はみなモリで獲物を捕らえ、完全にその日暮らしの生活を送っていたのに。今現在の彼らの生活はと言ったら、ネットをしたり、50CentやBritneySpearsの様な人類のカスを気にする毎日。だが、多くのグリーンランド人が孤独かつ貧しいという現実を踏まえると、ネットやテレビは他の世界とつながるための手段というよりむしろ、はるか遠くの星を眺めるためにあるような“歯がゆい窓”のような役割を果たしていると言ってもイイかもしれない。そしてそれは時に、グリーンランドが他国からどれだけかけ離れているかを単純に際立たせるだけなんだ。
